EFC 58: MAZANY VS MADGE PREVIEW

EFC 58: Mazany vs Madge Preview

By Edrich Pienaar

With just a few days to go until EFC 58 in Cape Town. We take an exclusive preview of the main card at EFC 58 on 8 April at Grand West.

Main Event: Dave “Pain Train” Mazany vs Don “Magic Man” Madge (Lightweight Title)

The Main event sees the former lightweight title holder (Madge) take on the man training out of Extreme Couture in Las Vegas, USA.

Mazany was set to defend his title against Madge at EFC 55 last year. Unfortunately Madge withdrew from the fight with injury. Mazany faced Leon Mynhardt on short notice and defeated him in a fight of the night performance.

His opponent is the rightful no. 1 contender for the lightweight title, Don Madge. Madge evolved into a new and more all – rounded (and dangerous) fighter since joining one of the best (if not the best) gyms in South Africa, Fight Fit Militia. He proved that, under the tutelage of his coach, Richard Quan, he is a force to recon with within the lightweight division.

Madge is hell bent to reclaim the title he feels he never lost. Mazany on the other hand is hell bent on defending the title.

Co Main Event: Irshaad “White Tiger” Sayed vs Tumisang “The President” Madiba

The former interim bantamweight champion is looking to make a return to the top of the division after his unsuccessful title challenge against Demarte Pena at EFC 55.

He faces the charismatic Tumisang “The President” Madiba. Having recently relocated to Cape Town, he is looking to take victory in his first fight as a bantamweight.

Fight 3: Ruan “Fangzz” Potts vs Karl “The Wrecking Machine” Etherington

The former two times EFC Heavyweight Champion (Potts) is looking to extend his current two fight winning streak to three when he takes on a man who is making his EFC debut, Karl Etherington. Potts has a less than favourite record of 0 – 4 (0 wins, 4 losses) against foreign opponents. He will be looking to set the record straight this time around.

His opponent is England’s Karl Etherington. He is rightfully described as a very dangerous man. Holding a record of 12 – 2 (12 wins, 2 losses), and none of his fights going past the first round, his alias of “The Wrecking Machine” is truly appropriate. He will be looking to make a massive statement in the organisation on 8 April in Cape Town.

Fight 4: Sylvester “Gladiator” Chipfumbu vs Abdul “Hollywood” Hassan

Chipfumbu or “Gladiator” as he is also known as makes his return to the hexagon after a unanimous decision victory in his last fight at EFC 55. The Zimbabwean is looking to improve his undefeated record of 3 – 0 (3 wins, 0 losses) when he faces the man from Durban, Abdul “Hollywood” Hassan.

Hassan (who has fought the who’s who in the division) will be looking to add to his win against Martin de Beer at EFC 54. One thing is for sure. The man training out of Gorgeous Boyz Hardcore will not be intimidated by any fighter in the bantamweight division.

Fight 5: Dino “The Lion” Bagattin vs Shaun de Lange

Bagattin will be looking to snap a 2 fight losing streak and get his first “W” in the hexagon since EFC 36 where he defeated Gordon Roodman via TKO. He is an exciting and impressive veteran of the EFC. Will his dynamic head movement and experience be too much for his opponent?

His opponent, Shaun de Lange, is making his first fight appearance since his unanimous decision loss against Mark Hulme at EFC 39. He is an extremely tough fighter with effective grappling, striking and high level Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

This is a possible candidate for fight of the night.

Prelim fight to watch: Regis “Frostie” Muyambu vs Deon “Bonzai” Brunning

Regis Muyambu makes his return to the hexagon on the back of a very impressive and dominant unanimous decision victory over Pope Djembo at EFC 52. He would like to continue his way to the top of the lightweight division with a victory of a man also making his EFC debut, Deon Brunning.

Brunning, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blackbelt, who is originally from South Africa (but moved to England) has recently returned and is fighting out of Pride Fighting Academy in Cape Town. He is undefeated in professional MMA and brings a wealth of grappling expertise to the lightweight division.
