Cape Town restored its pride at EFC 52 hosted at the Grand Arena, GrandWest this evening. Hometown favourites Don Madge and Champion Dalcha secured victory to send the partisan crowd into rapture.

The main event saw Madge face Brazilian Jadyson Costa, his former BJJ coach now residing in Michigan, USA. After an unprecedented build up to the fight which culminated in Costa attempting a takedown at weigh-in the day before, Madge rallied from an early scare to take the victory. Early in the first, Costa knocked down Madge with a vicious left hook that stunned the former lightweight champion. Costa capitalised, secured position on the ground and came close to sinking a choke, but couldn’t finish the fight. Once Madge escaped, he dominated. The fight ended with Madge raining down strikes and referee Bobby Karagianidis had no choice but to hand Madge a TKO victory.

In the co-main event of the evening, Champion Dalcha took on Tumelo Maphutha for the interim light heavyweight title. In a tepid five round affair, Dalcha dominated from start to finish with regular takedowns and a far more aggressive game plan. Maphutha seemed a shade of the athlete fans had seen in his previous two fights. To the delight of the hometown crowd, Dalcha was awarded the fight unanimously and took the belt. A potential unification with Norman Wessels awaits.

Bruno Mukulu continued his resurgence with a victory over EFC journeyman Wade Henderson in a catchweight bout. Having lost to Henderson at EFC 26, the Congolese was hell-bent on avenging the loss. With some clinical striking, Mukulu ended the fight swiftly. A brutal leg kick to Henderson’s ribs sent him to the floor. Mukulu quickly followed up with strikes and the referee stopped the bout.

Second on the main card saw Tumisang Madiba’s return to the win column with a TKO victory over Sindile Manengela. After being smothered by Manengela in the first, Madiba came out in the second round with a renewed vigour. After expertly sprawling an attempted takedown, Madiba managed to find position and finish the fight via TKO (punches).

Saxon Delafield opened the main card in perfect fashion with a quick, clinical victory over Sibusiso Mdoku via guillotine choke. Delafield claimed his third victory in the Hexagon and continued to live up to his record of finishing fights, win or lose, in the first round.

Fight of the night went to the bout between between Pope Djembo and Regis Muyambo. Performance bonuses were awarded to: Armand Scheepers, Pupanga Tresor, Lourens Botes, Sylvester Shipfumbu, Sindile Manengela and Tumisang Madiba.
